Moving In
Finding a rental property has become a competitive exercise, some ideas for success are -
- Have your application prepared as if you were putting a CV together, always include as much information as you can and write a covering letter telling us a little bit about yourself.
- Include any written references you may have, copies of photo ID, copies of bills that show you have lived at the address stated, photos, and try to obtain a copy of your payment ledger from your current agent (if you have always paid on time this will be a very powerful document when seeking a new property)
You could try to avoid a lot of potential stress by considering the following:
-think carefully about whether the property really suits your needs before you apply. In most cases owners will not be prepared to make any major changes to the property. Will you be happy in an older property? Are you able to commit to maintaining a garden?
-please note that most owners will require you to start the lease as soon as possible.
- Tenants must organise utility connections well in advance of the move in date.
- Almost all properties will require a month's rent as bond.
- A month's rent is not simply 4 weeks rent, it is calculated as follows -
Weekly price divided by 7 (7 days)
Multiplied by 365 (1 year)
Divided by 12 (12 months) and rounded off
- Once you move in, make a point of locating the mains power box and the mains water supply tap in case you have to switch them off in an emergency
- Try to keep the information kit you receive in an easily accessible place.
